Privacy Policy

Effective Date: 27 December 2025

1. Introduction

Welcome to OpenDictionary, a project by Kheer Labs ("we," "us," or "our"). This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of your information when you use our mobile application.

We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring your dictionary data remains personal and secure.

2. Information Collection and Use

OpenDictionary is designed to be a local-first application. Most of the data you generate is stored exclusively on your device.

Personal Account Data:
We do NOT require you to create an account. We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number.

Dictionary Data:
All your Word Lists, Flashcards, Definitions, and History are stored locally on your device in JSON format. This data is not uploaded to our servers.

Usage Data (Analytics):
We use Google Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous usage information (e.g., how many words are added on average, which screens are most visited). This helps us understand app performance and improve the user experience.

Device & App Information:
We may collect anonymous device and app information such as device model, operating system version, app version, and language settings through Firebase Analytics. This information cannot be used to identify you personally and is used solely for analytics and performance monitoring.

3. Third-Party Services

To provide full functionality, OpenDictionary interacts with the following third-party services:

Free Dictionary API (api.dictionaryapi.dev):
When you search for a word definition, a request is sent to this API. They may receive your IP address as part of the standard HTTP request, but we do not send any identifiable user data to them.

Google Fonts:
Typography is provided by Google Fonts, which may track font usage anonymously.

Flutter TTS (Text-to-Speech):
When you listen to word pronunciations, the app uses your device's native text-to-speech engine.

4. Local Storage & Backups

Your data is stored in the app's private storage on your mobile device.

The Export Data feature allows you to create a JSON backup of your entire dictionary. You are responsible for the security and storage of this backup once it leaves the application.

5. Notifications & Reminders

Our app uses local notifications to provide Daily Reminders and Inspiration. These notifications are managed locally on your device and do not involve any remote messaging servers or tracking.

6. Your Rights

Since all your dictionary data is stored locally, you have full control over it. You can:

Analytics Data Deletion:
While we do not store personal user data on our servers, users may request deletion of any analytics data associated with their device by contacting us at studios@kheerlabs.com. We will process such requests in accordance with applicable laws and Firebase data retention policies.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the updated Privacy Policy within the app.
